Commander-in-Chick
As Commander in Chick, Diana Major serves as primary keeper for the Real Chicks. Diana started interning at the Central Park Zoo in college, and one of her first gigs was working with the penguins. Since she joined the keeper staff in 2009, she has fallen in love with the birds. So even though it meant three months of starting work in the wee hours of the morning to feed those early-risers, she has no regrets. Hand-raising the chicks was a labor of love, she says. She watched them grow (sometimes, she swears, within the span of a single day), and watched with pride as they experienced all their "firsts"—first glimpse of the world out of the egg, first herring, first friend, first swim…it's safe to say, this is one proud penguin parent.
